TANK INSPECTIONS

When storing hazardous substances in storage tanks, reducing the risk of leakage is crucial. Storage tank corrosion can cause environmental contamination and fundamental product losses. As a result, you need to ensure the safety and the reliability of your storage tanks.

Our end-to-end tank inspections and certifications include comprehensive processes and tests ranging from most critical tank floor and tank shell inspections by automated nondestructive testing equipment, visual and manual testing by our experienced inspectors and technicians, as well as EODR (electro-optical distance-ranging surveys) for tank calibration and measurements, concluding with less critical tests determining tank roof integrity.

PIPELINE INSPECTIONS

Pipelines are vulnerable to degradation due to internal and external corrosion, cracking, third party damage and manufacturing flaws. Pipe leaks cause ongoing product losses, and in the case of petroleum or chemical pipelines can also lead to environmental disasters.

We specialize in the nondestructive inspections and certifications of aboveground pipelines. Our inspection personnel may use visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and other inspection methods to evaluate the integrity of the welds and ensure that they are of high quality.

EODR CALIBRATION & MEASUREMENTS

With the most field experience on the African continent in EODR (electro-optical distance-ranging), we provide accurate and detailed measurement and calibration of large petroleum and chemical cargo storage tanks, including shore tank as well as underground storage tanks. Using the latest EODR and 3D technology for tank calibration, our engineers and technicians are equipped with state-of-the-art measuring devices to measure and calibrate tanks of various shapes, sizes and designs. Measurements include detailed assessments of shell wall verticality, roundness, differential, out-of-plane, floor bottom and edge settlement including that of shell peaking & banding.

Tank calibrations and settlement surveys are conducted to the exacting requirements of the appropriate international standards published by the International Standards Organisation (ISO7507-1, 4 & 5) or by the American Petroleum Institute (API 650 & 653), not possible with conventional methods and otherwise generally overlooked by the majority of tank inspections. Detailed volumetric tables are compiled for each tank and can be formatted according to each client’s requirements. Comprehensive tables can incorporate any standard units of measure for size, volume or both.


API 653 CERTIFICATION

API 653 defines the American Petroleum Institute’s standards for the inspection, maintenance, repair and alteration of aboveground field-erected steel storage tanks at atmospheric pressure, including riveted and welded tanks, with diameters greater than 30 feet (10 metres) or over 50 feet (16+ metres) tall.

API 653 mandates routine monthly inspections, comprehensive in-service and out-of-service inspections, with relevant certification provided by a licensed inspector. API 653 certifications provide for assessment of the physical condition of a tank, evaluation of suitability for its continued service, as well as implementation of preventative maintenance programs assuring its integrity and longevity.

API 570 CERTIFICATION

API 570 defines the American Petroleum Institute’s protocols for the inspection, rating, maintenance, repair and alteration of in-service metallic piping systems. Though API 570 was primarily developed for the petroleum refining and chemical process industries it’s procedures may be used, where practical, for any piping system - for example, also applicable to FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) piping systems.

API 570 protocols focus on inspection and nondestructive evaluation strategies, integrity of process piping, management control of process units, as well as procedures for repair, modifications, and alterations of piping systems in-service. The benefits of API 570 inspections and certifications to owners, users, and industry as a whole are to maintain high levels of safety and integrity of assets, as well as to reduce risks and downtime resulting from meeting regulatory requirements.
